Each day, we are exposed to hundreds of chemicals in our environment that interfere with our body’s natural processes.
Toxins have been linked to many health conditions including several types of cancers, autoimmunity, and reproductive system disorders. However, those bigger conditions are not the only thing that toxins can cause. In fact, they can also be tied to some of the nagging issues we deal with on a daily basis. E
specially after a hectic holiday season packed with late nights, alcoholic beverages, and sweet treats, our liver and body can really use a good cleansing to help rid it of toxins.
That’s why I do a cleanse every January – to help clear out the toxins and give my body and liver a bit of a break.
Today, I want to share with you 9 reasons to consider a cleanse this winter:
Science newly discovered a surprising and concerning link between environmental toxins and weight gain due to the adverse effects of toxins on hormones and blood sugar balance. Toxins have a profound impact on the endocrine system.
The endocrine system is your hormone system. When the endocrine system is out of whack, your thyroid, adrenals, pancreas, and hormones are disrupted, leading to a slow metabolism, and thus, weight gain.
That’s why sometimes no matter how much we work out or cut calories, we still have a few stubborn pounds that just won’t come off.
2. Improved Hormone Balance
Every day, we are exposed to hundreds of chemicals that interfere with our endocrine system by mimicking, decreasing, or increasing our hormone levels.
Toxins have been linked to many reproductive health concerns such as PCOS, estrogen dominance, infertility, low sex drive and endometriosis
3. Healthier Digestion
A healthy gut is one of the keys to true wellness. The majority of our immune system is housed in the gut.
Toxins in the gut disrupt the gut’s ecosystem, leading to malabsorption, inflammation, gut permeability, improper digestion, and an overtaxed liver.
Some microbiome disruption signs include digestive issues like bloating or gas, headaches, general fatigue, mood swings, suppressed immunity, skin problems like eczema, food allergies, and autoimmune disorders.
4. Better Focus
Do you struggle with brain fog?
Brain fog is a sign the gut microbiome is out of balance. Toxins such as pesticides in our food and chemicals in our drinking water can disrupt the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut leading to dysbiosis, candida and SIBO.
5. More Energy
Feeling tired and rundown a lot may be a sign you need a liver cleanse.
A liver overtaxed with toxins is a common reason for low energy. And keep in mind, toxins are not just external; internal toxins such as stress, worry, and negative emotions are also energy draining.
6. Less Aches and Pains
When toxins and harmful compounds accumulate in the body, they cause inflammation.
Inflammation is the root cause of many modern health conditions today.
One common sign of inflammation is unexplained body aches and pains, especially joint, back and upper neck and shoulder pain.
7. Healthier Moods
Increased stress and mood swings are potential signs of a liver overburdened with toxins, both external and internal.
Toxins affect neurotransmitters and essential brain chemicals such as GABA and serotonin, resulting in feelings of stress and even unhappiness.
8. Better Sleep
At times, sleep issues (such as inability to fall or stay asleep) originate from toxins.
Although the body’s detoxification system continuously works to remove toxins, it sometimes needs additional support. You can provide this extra detox support to your body through your diet and an increased water intake.
9. Skin Problems
The overload of toxins accumulated in the liver can result in negative and apparent skin issues. Unexplainable inflammation, dryness, and breakouts are potential warning signs that the liver needs some TLC.
So there you have it – 9 really good reasons to consider doing a cleanse this winter.
As I said, I do one every January to help me jumpstart the new year and say goodbye to any stress and toxins I picked up over the last year and throughout the holiday season.
I also encourage my clients to go through a healthy liver cleanse when we start working together to help jumpstart their healing process. They typically experience a lot of improvement in the areas I mentioned above just because they gave their liver and immune system a boost.
When we cleanse, we want to stay away from those juice cleanses because they can negatively affect our blood sugar (and most people get very crabby on those) as well as those cleanses that have you taking a bunch of weird products and starving yourself.
Rather, doing a cleanse that is packed full of powerful nutrients to designed to support the liver and nourish your body is the way to go. You’re giving your body all the foods it needs and also feeling full and energized throughout.
